DVB-I As A Key Enabler for Hybrid Set-Top Boxes

At DVB World 2024, one thing was clear: DVB-I is gaining momentum as a central standard in the broadcasting world. It has the potential to be a powerful tool for developing hybrid set-top boxes, bridging the traditional world of linear TV with the flexibility of OTT services.

Over the years, our involvement in developing DVB-I solutions has deepened. Through our work with customers across various platforms—both Android and Linux-based—we’ve continuously enhanced our Inaris DVB Middleware to support more DVB-I features. Our engagement with DVB-I goes beyond theory: We have successfully demonstrated the seamless integration of DVB-I with our DVB stack on two occasions. Two years ago, at IBC 2022, we already showcased regionalized DVB-I service lists with our LiveOn TV App on Android TV, using an internet-based solution for both the channel list and streaming content. This year, at IBC 2024, we highlighted how DVB-I can simplify the setup of region-specific channel lists via SES satellites, bypassing the need for long channel scans and manual sorting. An integral part of this effort is our collaboration with Montage Technologies, whose Symphony 4 platform, with its low-cost design, offers a viable solution for building hybrid DVB and OTT devices.

With DVB World 2025 just around the corner, we expect DVB-I to be a major focus once again. We’ll be there as well and would welcome the opportunity to meet with you. Contact us if you’re interested in connecting face-to-face!
