Advancing Media Playback and UX on Android TV 14

TARA Systems is currently contributing to the development of a next-generation TV application for an Android TV 14 platform, running on an Amlogic S905X5-based device. This project focuses on delivering a premium big-screen experience by combining our proven media playback technology with the latest capabilities of the Android ecosystem.
A key aspect of the development is the validation and optimization of our media playback solution on Android TV 14. By fine-tuning performance across live DASH streams, replay scenarios, and recordings, we ensure consistently stable, responsive, and low-latency playback – an essential requirement for high-quality TV services. Through extended monitoring functionality, our customer can now gain deep insights into playback behaviour, enabling proactive quality assurance and a superior user experience across varying network and content conditions.
In addition, all mandatory features, such as subtitle handling, are being validated for Android TV 14, and our dedicated Teletext solution for streaming services has been fully integrated. This results in a complete, robust, and future-proof TV feature set tailored to next-generation devices.
The Android TV Operator Tier program further enhances the strategic value of this solution. By supporting the deployment of a custom launcher, we enable operators to differentiate their service with a branded, content-centric user experience. As part of the project, we have supported the technical adaptation of the TV application’s startup and lifecycle management to meet Google’s launcher-specific requirements. This ensures instant access to live TV after boot, a seamless user journey, and continuous usability – even in scenarios where TV streaming is temporarily unavailable. Users retain full access to installed applications and device functions, ensuring reliability and minimizing disruption.
