Quickline TV Successfully Transitions to ExoPlayer
Quickline TV is recognized as a premium television product in the Swiss market, known for its exceptional user experience and consistently high Net Promoter Score (NPS). As part of its ongoing commitment to innovation and quality, Quickline has recently completed a major technology upgrade: transitioning the video playback of their Android TV Set-Top Box from HLS to DASH.
This transition posed a significant technical challenge — maintaining the same high standard of performance, stability, and end-user experience, despite a complete overhaul of core playback components.
Thanks to our extensive expertise in media playback on Android and deep understanding of the ExoPlayer, TARA Systems played a key role in customizing and optimizing the player to meet Quickline’s specific requirements. Our work ensured that the switch to DASH happened seamlessly, with no perceivable changes or disruptions for end users. Playback quality, reliability, and responsiveness all remained at the premium level Quickline customers expect.
To make this possible, monitoring and analysis capabilities are essential. Our experience in this area allowed us to integrate a comprehensive monitoring solution for the ExoPlayer. This ensured we could continuously check and measure user experience and quality. During the rollout, we were able to evaluate the status at every phase, which led to targeted improvements and optimizations of the ExoPlayer integration.
After a successful testing phase, the new player and DASH-based streaming architecture are now live across the market.
