TARA Follows Closely the Google I/O 2022

Like every year, Google I/O is an exciting event for us. In a highly concentrated form, Google reported on the innovations for 2022 in over 140 lectures and presentations. For our Android TV solution, it is crucial to grasp these innovations early on.

Interesting topics were the ever-expanding use of AI, which enables completely new services and the better interaction of the various devices with each other as part of an ecosystem. The interaction of the mobile phone or tablet with the TV or the increasingly simple and intelligent voice control of a wide variety of devices in the home using Google Assistant are being developed further and further.

The benefits of Android 13 for Android TV were presented. Important features include personal and kids profiles, improvement in multi-channel audio, enhanced support for HDR formats such as Dolby Vision, new functionality for picture-in-picture mode, support for audio description preferences and improved reaction to HDMI state changes.

Media processing will become more powerful with the new Media3 architecture. ExoPlayer will continue to be used as part of Media3 for media playback and will be further enhanced. For example, the DRM key pre-fetching enables a faster start of the media.
